Objectives
CHARM aims to address the gaps identified and contribute to the European priorities presented above with the following 3 global objectives:
GO1 Developing new knowledge, materials and methods on the sustainable conservation of architectural heritage in changing climate, environment, society and technology.
GO2 Training 14 young researchers that will transfer the obtained knowledge to society at different levels: research institutions, industry, local, regional, national and international decision-makers.
GO3 Create a network of research, industrial and socioeconomic stakeholders involved in the development of environmental and socially responsible solutions for the conservation of architectural heritage.
To achieve these objectives, 13 Doctoral Candidates (DC) will work on 14 Individual Research Projects (IRP) organised in 3 Research and Innovation objectives:
R&IO1 The improvement of the understanding of damage processes in a changing environment and how to tackle them in a context of circular economy and sustainability by means of advanced (WP2: DC1-3) or experimental (WP3: DC4-9) methods (KPI 1 salt model software, 5 kinds of conservation materials, 2 AI drive restoration priority methods, 1 procedure for AH database organisation).
R&IO2 Determining the impact of environment and climate on AH, past actual and future, and the impact of conservation works on the environment (WP4: DC10-11-12) (KPI 2 new dose response functions, 1 LCA simplified procedure for AH conservation);
R&IO3 Development of tools for an improved management of buildings and sites conservation facing the risk they encounter due to climate and pollution changes, and the active involvement of the population in the whole development process of conservation techniques (WP5: DC 12-13) (2 tools for stakeholders: risk management and social impact/participation).
